Self care is more than just bubble baths, candles, and soft, luxurious things.
Don't get me wrong, I love to indulge in these types of physical care, but they are one small part of the overall framework of true self care.
For self care to be an abundant and joyous lifestyle, it needs to be intentional, and founded upon the 3 pillars of self care; Body, Mind, & Spirit.
Your body is the vessel that presents your grace and strength to the world, and should be honored in every way.
It's easy to become disconnected from our bodies when we're focused on building our communities, businesses, and families, but doing so at the expense of our physical health is not sustainable.
The solution? Find one physical practice you can do first thing in the morning before you start your day; walking, yoga, a light stretch, anything. Making this an intentional habit will help you withstand any external forces and aggravations that may come your way throughout the day, because you are grounded within yourself.
Additionally, harnessing the power of herbs and natural resources to manage your stress, boost energy, regulate hormones, and more will give you the foundation to create and abundant, healthy lifestyle.
Buried deep within your subconscious are the silly little stories about yourself and the world that you have memorized to the letter. These stories, like "I need to work harder" and "I don't have time to take care of myself" manifest in a lack of consistency in your self care rituals.
To put it simply, if at your core you don't believe you deserve intentional care, rest, and beauty, why would you take the everyday actions to make it a reality?
Rewrite the story with books and podcasts that make you present and focused on possibilities, not limitations.
I host Omekwa's podcast, The Tea Corner, where we discuss and learn from our own messes and mistakes—together; delving into pillars of self care and applying them to everyday topics like dating, career, and more. It's a live Q + A show on Omekwa's Instagram, and I love to connect with women there. Telling our stories is key to our healing.
The most important yet overlooked pillar, spiritual care means living life intentionally, and honoring your passions and life's purpose.
When you are rooted in purpose, self care becomes more than just a one-off treat, it is the source that allows you to pursue your purpose with strength and grace.
I encourage you to indulge in moments of daily reflection and communion, and never lose sight of your why. Surround yourself with a community of like minded women who will pour into you, and affirm your purpose.
If you're searching for that community, look no further; we've created Omekwa Oasis, and exclusive membership community where members receive herbalist consultations, access to group forums, expert led workshops and more. Click here to learn more.
